Cellar Spider

Pholcus phalangioides

Description:

Also called "Daddy Long-legs.". Small body with long, spindly legs. I found one adult and four spiderlings in the same corner, so I think the adult is the mother.

Habitat:

Corner of my house. I left them there; spiders are good to have around. (Haha, my husband would make me move them outside, but he never looks at my Noah spottings!)

Whoa, a spider fight. Crazy! I wouldn't be too happy to have one land on me like that either. This one doesn't have much of a web yet, that I can see. If it does decide to make a cobweb spider mansion, I'll have to relocate the little family, since they're in the foyer right next to our front door.

I usually leave them, too--until I wake up one morning and find one dropping on my chest while I'm lying in bed! These are the makers of messy cobwebs and long, long lines of web between light fixtures and wall, etc. I once saw a face-off, midair, between a Callobius spider and one of these, and the daddy long legs won.
