What an interesting place to see a red tail. I wonder what he was up to hanging out down there with an egret of all things... The last shot is my favorite!
This is a very nice shot of an immature Red Tailed Hawk.
Most of them around here hang out up on the lamp posts next to the parkways. There are a lot of rabbits, pigeons and rodents that hang around the grassy areas along the road.
I need a better zoom if I'm every going to get nice close shots like these. :)
He was just fine. When I walked up he was on the side of a stream with an egret and they both were checking out the area on the edge of the water. After about 5 minutes he flew up to a tree. He was perfectly ok.

very nice series on your spotting, I especially like the third photo as it shows off the bird the best.

Thank you! I have been trying to get a picture of one for a very long time.
Good to know. He's lovely, and you got wonderful shots of him.

Can you tell us more about this spotting? Was the bird injured or stunned, or protecting a kill?
It sure did let you get unusually close! Great opportunity to have a camera handy.
