Southern Leopard Frog

Lithobates sphenocephalus

Description:

A medium-sized frog with rounded or oblong dark spots on the back. The dorsolateral fold is narrow and distinctly raised, and extends to the groin. Dark markings on the hind legs appear as broken bars or elongated spots. The head appears long with a pointed snout.

Habitat:

Spotted this individual at the edge of pond-like aquatic habitat within the floodplains of the Missouri River. This species can be found in a wide variety of aquatic habitats including creeks, rivers, swamps, ponds, etc.

Excellent job. I have taken a few pictures of these guys in Maryland, but that is one heck of a closeup you pulled!
