Description:

180mm tall, grey, translucent, striated top 50mm wide, narrow white smooth stipe, pileus split and rolled upwards. Solitary but a couple within the local few metres.

Habitat:

On wood mulch in an open reserve.

Notes:

These mushrooms start with the cap well down, spreading upwards and splitting, rolling inwards until they consume themselves in a gooey black mass. See the sequence here... http://australianfungi.blogspot.com.au/2...

Nice angle for this pretty ink cap that I found too, in our secret garden. I love the sequence link you found and the sacrificial behavior of this mushroom (well, I guess it is only the fruiting body) to procreate.
