Indian Sunbeam Butterfly (female)

Curetis thetis

Description:

This butterfly was white when its wings were closed but showed a pattern of white edged with a broad blackish border when the wings were open.

Habitat:

Water from the lawn's pipe had mixed with water spilling from a nearby toilet and this butterfly was hovering between the herbaceous border and the spilled water (nitrogen rich, maybe)

Notes:

The male looks totally different and is a bright orange.

Jellis...THANK YOU for the ID!! How extraordinarily different is the male in colour...orange compared the females'silvery white, blue and black. Had I not seen the photos on Wikipedia I'd have thought these were two different species. Thanks again.
