Northern pintail

Anas acuta

Description:

A fairly large duck characterized by it's long pointed tail feathers. Males have a chocolate brown head with a white stripe along the side of the neck, breast is white, Its upperparts and sides are grey, but elongated grey feathers with black central stripes are draped across the back from the shoulder area. The vent area is yellow, contrasting with the black underside of the tail.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
