Melanerpes formicivorus
The clown-faced Acorn Woodpecker is a common bird of western oak forests. It lives in extended family groups, and all members of the group spend hours and hours storing thousands of acorns in carefully tended holes in trees and telephone poles.

Thanks for the compliments! The tree in picture #2 is a communal granary tree used by an entire colony of acorn woodpeckers to store their acorns.
Wow pic #2 shows quite a bit of work on that bird's behalf. Beautiful spotting.
