A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Anas clypeata
Female Northern Shoveler ducks are gray brown with some light edged feathers. Their eyes are brown and bills are olive green with a yellow edge. They have long spoon shaped bills that are wider at the tip than the base. The bills have comblike projections for straining food from the water.
This female is preening and resting on a pond at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge.
