Black-bellied Plover

Pluvialis squatarola

Description:

This is what a Black-bellied Plover looks like in the breeding season. Black face neck and belly. White stripe over the eyes and along sides of face to the neck. Back and wings are brown with white markings. It has a short bill and medium length legs. During winter (non-breeding) the black is gone and it will have a faded white stripe. Neck will have dashed streaks down to a white belly. It will definitely look like two different birds.

Habitat:

shorelines and estuaries.

Notes:

The odd thing about this bird is, this is winter and the bird didn't molt so it is still in it's summer plumage. I spotted this with other shorebirds but it was the only plover that I saw.
