Wolf Spider

Description:

Grows to 3cm, this one was that size. Strong looking dark grey spider with tan markings, hairs visible all over body and legs when examined closely. A spider that is able to leap, is aggressive if provoked and venomous although not deadly. Females carry the egg sacs with them. Eyes shine in the torch lights at night. There are quite a few species of Wolf Spider in Australia so assistance in accurate ID of this one welcome.

Habitat:

Found throughout much of Australia in all environments. This one disturbed under an old burnt log in open woodland.
