Saffron plates

Stereum sp.

Description:

Thin brackets with bright yellow and white margins and very dark brown to black near base, growing horizontally from a large wet eucalyptus log. The top was quite furry. The underneath revealed minute pores and felt like damp latex.

Habitat:

Suburban walking path in a deep railway cutting.

Notes:

Pic 2 shows some very young ones. Most of the 20 or so were more like pics 1,3. A quick search revealed no id yet.

A pretty picture argybee. Aren't these confusing! The same species can be various colors. It seems to have had a dry growth and then a winter growth.
