Yes the tail is kind of short too (in pic 3) but I didn't know they were so red in the belly, I guess they turn paler and get the collar as adults. I went by the reddish front, and I thought I saw the beginnings of the black cheek marks of a Mourning but I wasn't at all sure. We seem to have (or at least more visible in the suburbs) a lot more Collared here than Mourning.

It's too proportionate for juvenile Mourning Dove and the bill is too long.

This youngster looks to me more like a Mourning Dove, than our more frequent Eurasian Collared Dove.
