Loggerhead Shrike

Lanius ludovicianus

Description:

Grey from crown down the back of neck and back. Black on wings and upper side of the tail. Black eye mask. White on the underside. Bill has a hook on the end to hold on to prey.
I call this falcon wanna be. It behaves like one and it hunts like one. Once it catches it's prey, it will impale it on barbed wire or a sharp branch to hold it while it eats because it doesn't have talons like a raptor.

Habitat:

Found in open fields or near farms.
