Description:

Adorable baby American Coot had a bald red and black head. The feathers on the face and neck are orange. The beak is bright red and body is black. The mom was staying close to the baby and fed it often. The fourth image shows the mom chasing off a Green Heron. The video shows them swimming around and the mom feeding the chick.

Habitat:

Small lake at park. "Their breeding habitat is marshes from southern Quebec to the Pacific coast of North America and as far south as northern South America. Birds from temperate North America east of the Rocky Mountains migrate to the southern United States and southern British Columbia. " - Wikipedia
