Apis mellifera
The European Honeybee, Apis mellifera, can be translated to "honey-bearing bee," but Linnaeus, after realizing the bees bear nectar which is later turned into honey, tried to change the name three years later to Apis mellifica, which means, "honey-making bee," though the rules of taxonomy state the older name has precedence. The European Honeybee has been introduced into North America and is characterized by the "hairy-looking" eyes.
