Eastern Gray Squirrel

Sciurus carolinensis

Description:

Introduced into the UK from the USA in the late 18th early 19th Century have now displace most of the UK's native Red Squirrel

Habitat:

Woodland and some UK back gardens

Notes:

This rather fit looking Grey Squirrel sported quite a reddish coat . Sadly in a matter of days it suddenly passed away. I wondered if it had the squirrel pox has the squirrel still had the urge to eat and drink but unable to keep it's balance. When I went to rescue the squirrel and place in a box I was so badly bitten by fleas or bugs I had to go to my local Doctors Surgery. Coincidental the nurse that I saw explained that a squirrel had died in similar circumstances in her back garden/yard I did ring the RSPCA for advice as I was worried about the spread of disease to other animals but unfortunately I never had the promised return phone call
