Yellow and Black Garden Spider

Argiope aurantia

Description:

They have distinctive yellow and black markings on their abdomens and a mostly white cephalothorax. This one seems to have lost a couple of leg segments.

Habitat:

Wildlife habitat near the pond. Perhaps it got too close to a hungry Koi.

Spiders creep me out too, but these are not the run away kind that startle you. Jumping spiders and grasshoppers are my worst when they suddenly disappear from the lens. Try from a distance first with a longer lens, it helps work up the courage. I am fascinated by bugs, but feel the safest with my butterflies and dragonflies.
