Common Ostrich

Struthio camelus

Description:

The Ostrich or Common Ostrich, (Struthio camelus), is one or two species of large flightless birds native to Africa. The diet of Ostriches mainly consists of plant matter, though it also eats invertebrates. It lives in nomadic groups which contain between five and fifty birds. When threatened, the Ostrich will either hide itself by lying flat against the ground, or will run away. If cornered, it can attack with a kick from its powerful legs.

I didn't know that such large birds did that, our chikens are also eating small stones for the same reason, and why my dog is doing that I don't know ;-))

It also ingest stones to help with the digestion of what it eats.
