Description:

This is a newly emerged Tawny Emperor and it is taking shelter under the large leaves of a shrub. The forewing has no black submarginal spot. Costa has two prominent discal bars.

Habitat:

Wildlife habitat with many native plants, including Hackberry trees, Celtis laevigata.

Tawny Emperors are a medium butterfly, about the same or a bit smaller than a Painted Lady. In the Texas heat, I find a lot of butterflies and other insects sheltering in the shade under leaves.
