Snapping turtle

Description:

There are three females laying eggs in the third picture.

Habitat:

Marsh area. Laying eggs in the bank on the side of the road.

Notes:

Rainy and cloudy morning on my way to work I noticed several snapping turtles out laying eggs. Within this week I spotted several snapping turtles and painted turtles crossing roads and laying eggs.

Hi there. Since you know the identity of your organism, please go ahead and fill in the scientific name field. This allows the spotting to fully enter the database and become complete, letting groups and individuals to use the data and find your spotting. It also takes the spotting off the "unidentified" list. Thank you!

I think so...raccoons are known to raid turtle eggs and there are plenty around here too!

That's one busy roadside nest site! The nest in the second photo looks like it's been raided by predators. Is that the case?
