Ant

Myrmicinae family?

Description:

About 5mm long. Two had golden bands across their gaster and the other one was dark black.

Habitat:

Found feeding on a flowering gum.

Notes:

I am guessing the family Myrmicinae from the description on Brisbane Insects website (I have just learnt all about ant anatomy) - Myrmicine Ants usually have short triangular jaws and small eyes. The mesosoma is attached to the gaster by two distinct segments. There is sting at the tip of their gaster. If anyone could help me with a better ID I would be thankful. Also interested to know if the different markings on the gaster is due to age or sex.
