Paropsis atomaria
8-10mm long. Lovely golden brown with yellow dots. Both adult and larval stages feed on eucalypt leaves.
Eucalypt trees.
Thanks Martin. I think the cold might have slowed this one down a bit because he hardly moved when I started fiddling with his leaf to get a better shot.
This is a very common leaf beetle in Victoria last season. I am surprised that there are still any alive after our cold winter. The dark dot pattern looks much like P. atomaria which can range from dark markings to none at all. Here are the two extremes from my images. http://www.flickr.com/photos/66925960@N0... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/830...
P. variolosa in Victoria has regular yellow dots like this one but the brisbane images are a bit different and variable. http://www.flickr.com/photos/saj255/5541...
