Gray-necked Wood Rail

Aramides cajanea

Description:

A Rallidae, found from Central to South America, It measures 38 cm. and weighs 460 grams. long neck and legs, beak and tail are relatively short. Adults have a gray head and neck. The throat is white and the mantle is olive drab. The breast and sides are rufous cinnamon and abdomen, rump, and the tail coverts are black. The iris is red, bright greenish yellow beak and legs are red.

This individual was seen in Caño Palma, Tortuguero area in Costa Rica
