Buteo jamaicensis
This young one was screeching up a storm. He might have been calling for his parents.
Please consider adding this spotting to the Animal Architecture mission at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8082...
Thank you, I was very lucky to have had the camera on him when he took off from his home branch!
You're welcome!! You've added some fantastic pictures! I love the 2nd one (he's probably calling to mom & dad to feed him!!!) and the last...that whole picture is great...almost like it's hard for him to leave home!
Thank you all, especially Christy for identifying this hawk for me. I have a few more pics of it. I'll go through them and see if I have any others that are as clear, and I will add it to your mission!
Christy, thanks for the ID--birds are NOT my area of expertise...although I have a ton of them. I keep hoping to get some nice video of our resident osprey. We also have a bald eagle nearby but I haven't seen him/her in about a month.
Very nice shot! Definitely a juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk. I'd love you to add this spotting to the mission Raptors of North America: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8627...
Here's a good resource, which I'm looking at now to see if I can help ID for you.
