Fungus fly

Tapeigaster luteipennis

Description:

A small to medium fly with interesting mouth parts, dark brown lumpy thorax, yellow and brown banded legs with robust femurs, clear tinted wings fully overlapped at rest.

Habitat:

This fly was cruising around exploring different fungi on a highway division in suburbia..

I see it now thanks Martin. Very flexible knee joint then. Interesting 'vein' meandering down the front femur but just bands on the others.

Argy, I think its legs are all intact. The front left femur is concealing the tibia and part of the tarsus (you can see the claw) which are folded underneath.

Very similar isn't it. Yours has very dark legs and possibly some different head gear - might be sexual dimorphism? I just noticed mine is licking a wound... no front left tarsus. Ouch. No wonder it was so patient with me.
