Scopelodes albipalpalis
A strange furry grey-colored moth. Legs are all grey and furry thick. Two hairy "puffballs" are equipped on it's head for defense. It is very brave, does not get frightened easily when disturbed, maybe it is confident of it's camouflage or defense mechanism. Another brave moth with hairs for defense purposes - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/889...
Kundasang highlands, Sabah, Malaysia.
Scopelodes albipalpalis - another new and interesting moth. Another moth of the same species spotted in the same area after 3 days, could be a different individual or the same moth. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/152... >>>Map accuracy : 50m diameter.

Hi Leuba & RGB, I have another spotting of this species.
I am not sure whether they are the same individuals.
This time, the moth's pom-pom is not "activated"

Got it's ID - Scopelodes albipalpalis.
Thanks Leuba and ArgyBee.
ArgyBee, the bad news is that this was spotted in 2009, I have never found this species since then.
At that time I was just an amateur so I was contented with just having one photo, now I take several photographs of an organisms from different angles.
Yes Leuba, this is the coldest area in Malaysia and Borneo (23°C - not as cold as Siberia though) so maybe that explains it's furry "coat".
he looks like he's dressed for Siberia -what's he doing in Malaysia? - very interesting. thanks CXW.
That is a fantastic and strange moth XW.C !!
It would be really nice to have a front view with those pom-poms. (did you let it go yet? :) I hope you get an ID for this one. I will be waiting.
