I think we have genus correct - Cyrtophora Note Leuba has mis-spelled it below. If you don't have a photo of any actual spider then genus is probably the best ID to expect. I would put "Cyrtophora sp." into the scientific name field.
Thanks Frankievr. But when I searched on google, I found many types of tent spiders. Now I should look for this one in our area. I will try to click a photo.

Milind, Frankievr appears to have got the right genus. Have a look at this from Kerala. the spider is Cryptophora moluccensis

In South Africa we also have a tent spider (Cyrtophora). Family: Araneidae; Sub-family: Araneinae; Genus: Cyrtophora
