The river cooter is black in color. In this picture, it's head is tucked inside its shell, but it has a yellow and black striped head. The river cooter is a freshwater turtle.

Habitat:

These turtles are found in marshes or rivers in the central and eastern United States. We found this one, a few steps away from a river.
