Description:

Like it’s larger look alike the female Hairy Woodpecker, the female Downy is entirely black and white. The field marks differ in pattern and the distance from the eye to the tip of the Downy to tip of the beak is much shorter than the Hairy The Downy tends to be more numerous in areas where they share habitat.

Habitat:

Woodlands and woodland edges in rural and urban areas.
