Planthopper Nymph

Description:

This is quite large for a nymph and measured a little over 3/8" long. It was very hard to distiguish.

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 10 weeks into the rainy season.

Hi Larry,

Cool pic! This is definitely not a spittlebug, though. It's a planthopper (superfamily Fulgoroidea) nymph....maybe Cixiidae, but I can't tell for sure.

do you think this is a hopper nymph?

I didn't think Spittle Bugs excreted the uric acid like the hoppers do.
