golden curtain crust -1

Stereum ostrea

Description:

Fans of golden orange with thin white margins were seen arising as stacks from the side of a decaying log. Some of the upper surfaces of the brackets were a mossy green from base to half way up the bracket.Brackets were very thin, slightly wavy and had concentric ridges. The under pore surface was smooth, showing pale rings of yellow orange and green. Droplets of moisture ere seen on the underside. Although flexible enough to be manipulated, the brackets were tough and stretched right out like stiff fans.

Habitat:

damp eucalyptus forest - in a gully by a local creek

Notes:

These were spotted on a log that had fallen amongst some australian violets ( Viola hederacea - pic #5) - added a beautiful splash of colour to the otherwise gloomy damp gully.
