Golden Snipe Fly

Chrysopilus sp.

Description:

A Snipe Fly of about 1cm in length, with the entire body covered in gold colored hair. The eyes are greenish and the halteres are dark. Family Rhagionidae.

Habitat:

Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

Three years ago I found a peculiar Snipe Fly in southern Chiapas with Orange metallic hair, orange eyes and orange halteres. Must be a different species, but I haven't found it yet.
