Bald Eagle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Habitat:

Mississippi River near dam.

Notes:

While biking in the snow, I found an area round a dam that had approximately 50 bald eagles perched in the trees awaiting their turn to dive for some fish. Here a mature bald eagle swoops down and grabs a fish. I missed the actual impact, however.

Thanks Logan! The bald eagle population is pretty awesome in Davenport right now. The day I was there, I saw around 50 or so eagles. A couple of days before that, my wife was over there and took a cell phone pic and there were around 75 perched in the trees! I usually go to LaClaire, but haven't been yet. Hopefully there is so good action there, as you can get pretty close to then while they are diving for fish.
