Bluebell Creeper

Billardiera heterophylla

Description:

These attractive white delicate bell-shaped flowers were on a creeper with shiny narrow leaves. The creeper was smothering other natives growing in the small patch in this reserve.

Habitat:

Spotted in a nature reserve beside a man-made lake.

Notes:

Billardiera genus has about 25 species with most of them occurring in West Australia. There are varieties with beautiful blue flowers. Fruits are long, cylindrical and a bluish-green.

This plant has become naturalised in other southern states of Australia adn are grown commercially. Because of its hardy nature, it has spread into bushland in some parts and is considered a weed.
