Description:

This particular worker had a black abdomen with red thorax and head. It was about 6mm in length. But many workers of this genus can vary in color from brown, red, and even black.

Habitat:

They prefer open areas, such as open forest, meadows. This particular ant was foraging in ferns while other of its species tended aphids on aspen samplings nearby.
