Dark Fishing Spider

Dolomedes tenebrosus

Description:

These are large spiders with a leg span up to 90mm (3.5 in). Brown with mottling. Tan bands on legs. Brown chevrons bordered with black on upper side of abdomen.

Habitat:

Usually found relatively close to water, although they will stray further from water than many of the other fishing spiders. They feed on aquatic and terrestrial insects and may even break the surface tension of water to grab small fishes and invertebrates.
