Stinging Silkmoth Caterpillar

Automeris metzli

Description:

Green and spined caterpillar, is toxic and uses the spines to avoid predators and to blend in its habitat.

Habitat:

Central America.

Notes:

I found this beautiful caterpillar in a Guayaba tree, it was looking for a place to do the cocoon, there were 2 other cocoons in the same tree. They should not be handled because of the poisonous spines which can cause a very nasty reaction to human skin.
