Phyllurus ossa

Description:

A medium sized leaf tailed gecko (89mm SVL) with a flat tail that is flared to carrot shape near the end. Original tail is banded with cream and black where as regenerated tails are pale grey with dark blotches.

Habitat:

Only found at Mt. Ossa, Mt. Charleton, Mt. Dryander and Conway rainforest in East Queensland. Found on large rocks and occasionally tree trunks near rocks in the rainforest.

Notes:

We did a 24 hour trip to find this gecko (we found two) and it was worth it.

Thanks Scott!I know the tail is usually for fat storage but this is such an odd shape!

Added some info for you Lisa. This gecko is normally found on boulders in the rainforest (sometimes tree trunks) so it has small claws instead of sticky toe pads.

These do not seem to have the toe pads of many gecko species. In what type of habitat are the found?
