Open Bill Stork

anastomus oscitans

Description:

Very big bird. When in flight it seems out of proportion as the wings seem to be in the middle. Black and "dirty" white, and big fat bills.

Habitat:

Ricefields, North West Thailand.

Notes:

For days I thought these were Hornbills. The first time I saw them I was driving and they just looked like they were about to tip forwards, just like Hornbills do. It took me a few days to put the birds standing in the rice fields together with the odd flying BIG birds, until I saw one taking of and fly away. COOL
