Orchard Orbweaver

Leucauge venusta

Description:

Smaller medium sized orb-web spider with long, thin legs and slightly elongated abdomen. Amazing green color on legs. Bright orange markings (almost metallic) on ventral abdomen (underside). Dorsal abdomen (back) silvery (which didn't come out well in the pictures) with black stripes and some yellow. Spins its web at an angle and hangs in the middle.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard garden.

Notes:

I actually found this species in the garden a few weeks ago but it was too small and shy for me to get a good photo. Now that the spider is bigger, I was able to get some better pictures.
