Domestic duck

Anas platyrhynchos domesticus

Description:

I know there are gulls, a coot, a duck, and a little grebe in this picture, but I'm after an ID on the big white one with the yellow bill.... I know what it looks like, but considering where it was found, it can't be. Unless it's an escaped one (doubtful) or an introduced species (doubtful). So, best guesses, anyone? :)

(Also, that grebe is _adorable_.)

Definitely a domestic duck. We've got the occasional domestic hanging out with the local flocks here, it's really cute. =)

Agree with feral Mallard. Domestics can show up in crazy places!

I'm pretty sure Bayucca nailed it, the white duck is a domesticated version of the mallard, Anas platyrhynchos, also sometimes called the "Pekin duck". It's common to find them in the wild, they're "escapees"! You do sometimes get wild mallards with this colour, but it's more likely it's just an escaped farmyard duck :)

This one has to be verified. I am a expert in butterflies and Donald Duck, but not really in other ducks...
