A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Serena repens
Saw palmettos grow in a wide range of habitats, but are most commonly associated with pine flat woods, where they grow low to the ground. The leaf stems have saw-like sharp teeth along the edges. The berries are an important food source for wildlife. Based on growth rates, saw palmettos may live to be 500-700 years old.
The saw palmetto was spotted in a forest near Grayton Beach State Park in Santa Rosa Beach Florida.
