Florida Redbelly Cooter

Pseudemys nelsoni

Habitat:

Endemic to Florida, and southern Georgia. Found in nearly any type of aquatic and brackish habitat.

Notes:

This one was sunning itself on the side of a pond, back legs out stretched. It made it possible to see the reddish underside making ID easier from other similar species. Red lines on the upper carapace can also be seen despite it being dark and cover with algae.
