Copper Underwing

Amphipyra pyramidoides

Description:

Can you see where the moth is? Just barely, right? This moth is not one of the true underwings (which are found in the genus Catocala), but is a very close relative which hides in unreachable corners during the day. The only reason why I found this guy was because we were raking leaves from the fall which had blown into our barn.

Habitat:

The larva can commonly be found on Apple trees.
