Sphyrapicus ruber
Beautiful woodpecker with a red head and a black and white marked back and tail. There is a vertical white stripe down the side.
Pepper tree in the backyard. This species is found along the west coast of the US and Canada. They're also found in extreme southwestern Alaska and northwestern Baja California.
Sadly I only have a macro lens but at least I got a photo :)

Yip, I'm in North County Inland so it's much hotter here but still considered San Diego. I do miss the seasons. It was near 90F today and I was dreaming of winter :)
Oh that's awesome!! Haha yeah I bet. I love this place! Do you live in the San Diego area? That's where my family is, and I consider it my 2nd home!
Thank you AustinH! I've been enjoying your collection as I grew up in FoCo :) I sure wish I had a camera back then!
Very cool! They are beautiful! Nice spot!
For sure! They are designed for what they do flawlessly.
They certainly are amazing birds :)
I recently learned something about woodpeckers I thought you might like. They can actually hear grubs through the wood in a tree!!!
Me too! This is only the second time I've seen one and am so happy I had a camera today!
I love those!
