A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Ramphastos ambiguus swainsoni
This was a female (I saw her come out of her nest and got a glimpse of her chicks). She was spotted in the mangroves of the Sierpe River in Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica.
This species of toucan ranges from eastern Honduras to northern Colombia and western Ecuador.
What a magnificent creature! And a fearsome predator as well. I later saw 2 great kiskadees chasing a pair of toucans away, most likely defending their nest and/or young; toucans are known to raid, steal and eat other birds' eggs and chicks.

Welcome to Project Noah, ClaudiaGalindo,
I hope you like the site as much we do; there are many features you can explore:
I invite you to go to http://www.projectnoah.org/faq where you will find the purpose and “rules” of Project Noah.
There is a blog http://blog.projectnoah.org/ where we post articles from spotters with special insight into different organisms.
There are also the chats for help with identification, and to comment on your own and others’ spottings.
Look at the global and local missions to put your spottings into:http://www.projectnoah.org/missions
Enjoy yourself here, see you around!
I'm not sure why the site wouldn't let me add the correct location for this sighting which took place in the mangroves on the Sierpe River in the Osa peninsula, Costa Rica.
