A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Pareronia boebera
Wingspan of both sexes ranges from 2 - 2.25 inches. Females are lighter than the male but with the same undersides. I have studied this species and found out that the females seldom fly far from the hostplant and each can lay up to more than three hundred eggs . An average of 20 % of the eggs survive to become adult butterflies because of a wide range of divers predators. The caterpillar is so sensitive that it leaves the hostplant when disturbed and only a few survive as they look for another shelter.
Secondary forests, cultivated and populated land. The hostplants often grow in forested areas under tree canopies.
