Tawny Frogmouth

Podargus strigoides

Description:

Adult male, approx 40cm length, yellow eyes, grey/black markings.

Habitat:

Temperate bushland, rough-barked grey trees where it blends in as a branch. This bird moved to the clothesline to hunt as I had selectively cleared a nearby section of brush for fruit trees.

Notes:

Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds used to identify. Documented for permaculture property Budleigh. Introduced habitats compost pile and chicken pen bought with it rodents which the owl is now feeding on.
