Monarch chrysalis

Danaus plexippus

Description:

Brown and white cocoon. You can see the silk pad that's attached to the branch. This is the same bush where a Monarch caterpillar was as seen in the second image. The third shows three in a small area.

Habitat:

Hanging on the underside of a Milkweed leaf in Balboa Park.

Notes:

"The chrysalis darkens (the exoskeleton becomes transparent) a day before it emerges, and its orange and black wings can be seen." - Wikipedia
