Wood Gnat

Sylvicola dubius

Description:

A fly with long legs and black and white markings on the wings. Legs had cream and black bands. Eyes were prominent and the short antennae appeared feathery. The base of the antennae (scape) were a pale colour. The fly would have been about 13mm long.

Notes:

Could only take one shot before he flew away. Interesting to spot any insect at all at this time of year !! Not much information available about this insect. ID provided by ALA. Order: Diptera Family: Anisopodidae
