A fly with long legs and black and white markings on the wings. Legs had cream and black bands. Eyes were prominent and the short antennae appeared feathery. The fly would have been about 13mm long.
Could only take one shot before he flew away. This crane fly was very different to the common crane fly with long dangling legs. Interesting to spot any insect at all at this time of year !! This fly belongs to the Subfamily LIMONIINAE ( Family Tipulidae), with many species.
